Lit fires I steam cutter. 0400. Received 122 lbs of fresh beef and 61 lbs of vegetables plus 164 lbs of soft bread. 0500. Dressed ship in honour of the birthday of HM Queen Victoria.  0930. Divisions and prayers. 1000. Hands employed fitting rigging screws and as requisite. Noon. Wind ENE force 3. Fired salute of 31 guns.  1400. Gave Special leave to starboard watch until 0600 (25th). Hands making and mending clothing. German Man of War Schwalbe arrived and saluted with 21 guns. 1700. Quarters. Hands scrubbing hammocks and washing clothes. 2000. German Man of War saluted German Consul with 7 guns.  Coal expended 12 cwt. Number on sick list 5.
