0800 Quarters and prayers. Set Royals, forward jib and port Topsail stud sails. Employed fitting main top starboard staysail and stay.

PM Employed making and mending clothes.

1600. Passing through strong tide rips. Making way at 3 to 4 knots. Scrubbed and washed clothes.

2200 passing through several more tide rips. Short ripplings which result from eddies or the passage of the tide overran uneven bottom. Also observed in the ocean where two tides meet, but not appearing to affect a ship’s course.
