At number 11 buoy at Bombay. Wind ENE force 3 with blue sky. Barometer 30.08 rising to 30.13 at noon before falling to 30.03 at 1600 and finishing at midnight at 30.08 inches. Temperature at noon 84F. 0500. Carried away and lost overboard 100 fathom log line. 0800. Weighed and proceeded for harbour at 80 revolutions – 8 knots. Course SE by E ½ E. 0825. Observed HMS Marathon.  0900 course as requisite for harbour. Steam up in cutter. 0955. Stopped and came to with stern anchor in 6 ½ fathoms and veered to 2 ½ shackles. Anchor bearings Clock tower N46W. Sunk Bank Light S15W magnetic. Employed variously. Noon. Wind NE force 2. 1310 Weighed and proceeded out of harbour with firing target in tow.  Steering and course as requisite 1630. Stopped. Moored target. 1715. Came to with stream anchors in 14 fathoms and veered to 4 shackles. Banked fires. Anchor bearings (?) Light S75E. K (?) light S20E. 200. Set anchor watch. Coal expended 8 tons 12 cwt. Number on sick list 15.
