Barometer 29.75 inches rising to 29.85 at 0800 and then falling to 29.80 at noon and to 29.70 at 1600 before rising to 29.75 at 2000 and finishing at 29.80 at midnight. Temperature at noon 92F.  Received 124 lbs of beef and 62 lbs of vegetables plus 180 lbs of bread.  0600. Weighed and proceeded. 0630. Dropped target to carry out 3 pounder Quick Fire prize firing. 0800. Wind SW force 3 with broken cloud. 1030. Picked up target. Proceeded for correcting and adjusting compass. Surveying cables. Noon. Wind SW force 3 with broken cloud. Employed as requisite. Corrected compass and swung ship for deviation. 1600. Wind calm with broken cloud. Proceeded for anchorage. 1730. Stopped. Came to on sandy bottom in 5 fathoms and veered to 13 shackles. Anchor bearings. Red buoy E by S. Light ship NE ½ E. Draught. Forward 13 feet 1 inch. Aft. 15 feet 10 inches. Washed clothes.  Coal expended 5 tons.  Number on sick list 18.
