Barometer 29.96 inches rising to 29.98 at 0800 and to 29.92 at 1600 and to 30.01 at 2000 before finishing at 30.03 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 90F. 0500. Man and arm boats. Received 114 lbs of meat and 57 lbs of vegetables plus 246 lbs of bread. 0750. Tried Whitehead torpedoes. 0800. Divisions. Marines instructed in heavy marching order. Ordinary Seamen at 6 inch gun drill. Lost overboard by accident one station ladder. 1030. Lit fires in three boilers. Noon. Wind SW force 2 with broken cloud. Draught forward 12 feet 9 inches.  Aft 16 feet. 1300. Employed as requisite. 1600. Weighed and proceed out of harbour. 1625. Stopped to clean anchor.1750 Proceeded to take up station astern of Admiral. 1800. Course S30E. 2000. Steaming at 94 revolutions. 2100 Exercised boat crew. Coal expended 13 tons 16 cwt.
