Temperature at noon 83F. 0910. Weighed and proceeded out of harbour. 0930 Mustered by Divisions. Read prayers. 100 shaped to NE ½ E at 5 knots. Housed sails. Employed as requisite. Noon Wind SSW force 3 with moderate swell. Altered course to N by E at 8 knots. Position 3.26S 40.17E. PM Make and mend clothes. 1400. Observed HMS Turquoise at anchor off Ras Gomany. 1530. Stopped and came to in 11 fathoms with broken bottom. Veered to 4 shackles. Banked fires. 1715. Mustered at Quarters. Anchorage bearings. Ras Gormany 87W, Sandhill S49W magnetic. Wind SSE force 4. Coal expended 8 tons 15 cwt. Number on sick list 8.
