At anchor in Zanzibar Harbour. Wind calm with broken cloud. Barometer 30.02 inches rising to 30.06 at noon before falling to 29.98 at 1600 and finishing at 30.02 at midnight. Temperature at noon. 84F. Draught of water forward 14 feet 6 inches. Aft 15 feet 10 inches. Received from 29 January to 21st of February.  Fresh water for boiler 106 tons and for ship’s use 23 tons. 0430. Received 120 lbs of fresh beef and 60 lbs of vegetables. 0600 Loosed fore and aft sails. 0700. Lit fires and raised steam in all boilers. 0710. HMS Gannet arrived. 0915. Mustered at Divisions and read prayers..1030. Preparing for sea and as requisite. Noon. Wind south force 1. 1300. French sloop Hugore (?) arrived. 1330. Weighed and proceeded by English Pass. 1335. HMS Algerine arrived. 1400 Observed German cruiser Spuber standing to starboard. 1515. Mustered at Quarters. Exercised at General Quarters passing up shell etc.  1730. Shaped to E ½ S. 1800. Commenced quarterly passage trial. 10.2 knots at midnight. Coal expended 18 tons 3 cwt. Number on sick list 6.
