At single anchor at Kilifi harbour. Wind NNW force 1 with broken cloud. Barometer 29.70 rising to 29.82 inches at noon before falling to 29.74 inches at 2000. Temperature at noon 86F.  Draught of water 12 feet 3 inches forward. 15 feet 9 inches aft. 0600. Sent steam cutter and whaler to cruise entrance of harbour. 0730 weighed and proceed out of harbour. 0800. Wind ENE force 1. 0845 Shaped to NE ½ E at 50 revolutions. 100. Mustered by Divisions and performed Divine Service.  Position at noon 3.30S 40.10 E. altered course to NNE at 3.5 knots. 1500 altered course to N by E. 1715 Mustered at Quarters. 1745. Stopped and came to under Ras Gomany with sandy bottom in 8 fathoms. Veered to 3 shackles. Banked fires. 2000. Wind SE force 3 to 4. Anchorage bearings. Ras Gomany S19E Sandhills S52W magnetic. Coal expended 11 tons 1 cwt. Number on sick list 9.
