Barometer 20.12 inches climbing to 30.18 at noon before falling 30.13 inches at 1600 and then rising to 30.18 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 85F.   Draught of water forward 13 feet 6 inches. Aft 15 feet 6 inches.0630. Employed cleaning hold. Divers down examining valves. 0840 Received despatches from Commander-n-Chief by torpedo boat. Lit fires and gained steam in 3 and 4 boilers. 0945. Weighed and proceeded out of harbour. 1030 Shaped to south. Employed storing hold and as requisite. Position at noon 4.50S 39.32E. PM. Communicated with GRIFFIN. 1330. Connected 3 boiler. 1400. Altered course to SW by S 1/4S at 12 knots. 1430. Connected 4the boiler and proceeded at full speed. Employed storing hold. Marines at gun drill. 1600. Wind SW force 2.  Ship making 12 ½ knots. 1515 mustered at Quarters. 1740. Altered course to SW by W. 1830. Course as requisite for Zanzibar. 2000. Lanced away and lost overboard 100 fathoms of log line and ships log.  2200. Passed the Zanzibar anchorage and communicated by signal with HMS Agamemnon. Working engines as requisite. Proceeded out of Southern Pass. Midnight shaped to S by E ½ S at 6 knots. Coal expended 19 tons 3 cwt. Number on sick list 15.
