At sea between Lamus and Kilifi. Course SW by S at 8.5 knots. Wind south force 3. Cloudy with passing showers with a slight swell. Barometer 30.15 inches rising to 30.22 at noon before falling to 30.19 inches at 1600 and finishing at 30.20 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 81F. 0600. Altered course to WSW at 9 knots. 0700. Observed land on starboard bow. 0800 altered course to W by S. Wind SW force 2 to 3.  0920 Mustered by Divisions and read prayers. 1050 Stopped and came to in Kilifi Harbour in 8 fathoms and veered to 3 ½ shackles.  Found here transport POMADE (?) which sailed at 1130. Noon. Banked fires. Anchorage bearings Bluff 120 feet S47W Bushy inlet S36E magnetic. Employed as requisite. 1400. Training party at gun drill. 1730 mustered at Quarters. Coal expended 13 tons 14 cwt. Number on sick list 6.
