Temperature at noon 82F.  0200. Received 122 lbs of fresh beef and 61 lbs of vegetables plus 168 lbs of soft bread. 0400. Read instructions for preparing ship for battle. Keeping fast the awnings on account of the last of the ???? (Cannot read handwriting for last word)  Exercised hands at General Quarters.  Fire Stations First and second Divisions of boarders. 1010 Divisions and prayers. Hands employed scrapping and painting hammock nettings. Marines at rifle drill. Remainder as requisite. Divers cleaning ship’s bottom. Ordinary Seamen and Boys at seamanship. Noon. 1400. Diving party employed cleaning ship’s bottom. Hands employed scrapping and cleaning out hammock nettings and as requisite. 1600. Gave Special leave to starboard watch until 0500. (14th). 1700. Quarters. Landed field Guns and crews for drill. Hands scrubbing and washing clothes.  1820. Italian warship Venies (?) sailed. 2045. Exercised watch at man and arm ship. Coal expended 5 cwt.
