At sea. Zanzibar to Mozambique course SE by S ¾ S at 9.2 knots. Wind Se force 3 with broken cloud. Barometer 30.13 inches rising to 30.16 at noon before falling to 30.12 at 1600 and finishing at 30.14 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 80.F 0400. Altered course to S by W. 0900. Mustered by Divisions and read prayers. 1000. Watch at gun drill. 1130 Set jib and fore and aft sails. Position at noon 9.19S 40.35E. 1245. Altered course to S ½ E. Reduced to 70 revolution – 8 knots. 1330. Stopped starboard engine and increased to 89 revolutions on port engine. 1500. Proceeded at 70 revolution son both engines. Ordinary seamen at seamanship instruction. 1715. Mustered at Quarters. Carried away and lost overboard one 100 fathom log line. 2100. Observed Cape Delgado Light SW by S. 2140. Altered course to S by E. and reduced to 60 revolutions – 6.8 knots.  Coal expended 24 tons 5 cwt. Number on sick list 9.
