Barometer 29.98 inches rising to 30.00 at 0800 before falling to 29.95 at 1600 and then rising  to 30.06 at 2000 before finishing at 30.00 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 91F. Received 120 lbs of meat and 60 lbs of vegetables plus 471 lbs of bread. 0430. Lit fires in two boilers. Landed Small Arms Company and Marines for drill. Draught forward 13 feet 2 inches. Aft 15 feet 1 inch. 1000. Weighed and proceeded as requisite. 1035. Put Patent Log over. Commenced trial of engines. 1000. Cleaning ship. Noon. Wind south force 1 with broken cloud. Steaming at 55 revolutions. 6.2 knots.  Course S22E.  Lost by accident 1 (Unable to read handwriting) 1400 Washed clothes. 1540. Increased to 60 revolutions. Course as for firing Whitehead torpedoes. 1600. Quarters. Stopped. Lowered boats and laid out targets. Proceeded and commenced Whitehead torpedo practice. 1820. Stopped.
