At anchor in Kilifi harbour. Wind west force 1 with broken cloud. Barometer 30.16 inches rising to 30.21 inches at noon before falling to 30.14 at 1600 and rising to 30.19 at midnight. Temperature at noon 79F. 0920. Weighed and proceed out of harbour. Wind SSW force 1.  Lost 10 fathom hand lead and line by fouling of propeller. Mustered by Divisions and prayers. 1030. Observed HMS Turquoise to south. 1100. Stopped and communicated with HMS Turquoise by boat. Employed as requisite. Training party at pistol drill. 1130. Proceeded NE ½ E at 75 revolutions. Position at noon 3.42S 39.56E. Slight swell. 1400. Altered course to NNE. 1440. Altered course to N by W. employed as requisite. Training party at rifle drill. 1600. Stopped and came to in Melinda Harbour with sandy bottom in 7 fathoms and veered to 3 shackles. Banked fires. Anchorage bearings. Flagstaff S44W. Vasco de Gamas Pillar S 9 W magnetic.  1715. Mustered at Quarters. Coal expended 8 tons 3 cwt. Number on sick list 9.
