Employed refitting awnings. Marines at drill. 1130. Observed HMS Mariner. 1145. Altered course to NE ¾ N at 75 revolutions -2 knots. 1230. Altered course to SSW. Communicated by signal with HMS Mariner. Increased to 95 revolutions – 9.8 knots. 1500. Reduced to 70 revolutions – 7 knots. Altered course to SW by S. make and mend clothes. 1710. Banked fires.  Anchorage bearings – fort S54W. Point S47E magnetic. Pillar direction point N7W. Draught of water forward 13 feet 6 inches. Aft 15 feet 6 inches. Coal expended 10 tons 14 cwt.
