In Colombo Harbour moored head and stern.  Wind north force 3 with broken cloud increasing to 6 later. Barometer 30.03 inches rising to 30.10 at 0800 and finishing at 30.05 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 82F.  Draught 14 feet 4 inches forward 16 feet 3 inches aft. 0600. Preparing for sea. Spread fires in number 1, 2 and 4 boilers. 0800. Received 120 lbs of beef and 60 lbs of vegetables. 0815. Unshackled. Weighed and proceeded as requisite out of harbour. 0835. Shaped course to N69W. 0850. Connected hand wheel.  0905. Proceeded at 95 revolutions – 10 knots. 1110.  Put clock back 8 minutes. Employed as requisite. Noon. Wind north force 4 to 6 with broken cloud and squalls. 1300. Employed as requisite. Ordinary Seamen and Boys at seamanship. 2000. Wind NNE force 52100. Exercised seaboat’s crews. Exercised Close watertight doors.  Coal expended 16 tons 12 cwt. Number on sick list 5.
