At anchor off Zanzibar. Wind Calm force 0 with broken cloud. Barometer 30.17 inches rising to 30.20 at 0800 before falling to 30.12 at 1600 remaining steady to midnight. Temperature at noon 79F.  0400. Steam up in cutter. 0500. Received 114 lbs of fresh beef and 57 lbs of vegetables. 0600. Laid out stream anchor. 0730 ALGERINE relieved the Guard. 0915. Mustered by Divisions and read prayers. 1000. Exercised at General Quarters and running Whitehead torpedoes.  Employed as requisite. Noon. Wind S by W force 1 cloudy with passing showers. 1330. Torpedomen of watch fitting and fusing mines. Remainder employed variously. 1700. Weighed and re-stowed stream anchors. Coal expended 3 tons 19 cwt. Number on sick list 9.
