At anchor off Melinda. Wind south force 4 with broken cloud and considerable swell. Barometer 30.15 inches rising to 30.19 at 0800 before falling  to 30.12 inches at 1600 and finishing at 30.16 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 80F.  0515. Weighed. 0525. Proceeded out of anchorage. 0600. Shaped to NE. at 11 knots. Washed clothes. 0915. Mustered by Divisions and read prayers. Employed scrubbing canvas gear.  Training party at drill.1100. Reduced to 80 revolutions – 8 knots. Course as required. 1130. Stopped and came to in Lamus Harbour with broken bottom in 5 ½ fathoms. Let go on sandy bottom and moored ship with 2 shackles on each cable. Let fires die out. Communicated with boats. Employed as requisite. Training party at rifle drill. Wind SSW force 3. 1715. Mustered at Quarters. (No anchorage bearings given) coal expended 11 tons 15 cwt. Number on sick list 11.
