Temperature at noon 80F. 0530. Washed clothes. 0700. Despatched steam cutter to carry out blockade duties. 0800. Wind SW force 1 becoming force 3 at noon. 0930. Weighed and proceeded out of harbour. Observed HMS Turquoise off the harbour. Communicated with her by boat. 1130 Proceeded NE by E at 70 revolutions – 2 to 4 knots. Employed as requisite. 1100. Stopped. Training party at machine gun drill.  Position at noon. 3.37S 39.59E. Increased to 85 revolutions – 8 knots. 1300. Altered course to NE by N. 1330. Altered course to North. 1400. Training party at machine gun drill. 15.15 Stopped and came to off Melinda with sandy bottom in 6 ½ fathoms and veered to 3 shackles. 1600. Banked fires.  Anchorage bearings. Flag staff S44W. Vasco de Gammas Pillar S10W 1730. Mustered at Quarters. Coal expended 10 tons. Number on sick list 7.
