At sea- Zanzibar to Mauritius. Course SE by E at 9.2 knots. Wind SE force 5 with squalls becoming SSE force 2 with broken cloud.  Barometer 30.90 inches dropping to 30.32 at noon and to 30.27 at 1600 before finishing at 30.34 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 79F. 0800. Altered course to SE ½ S. 0900. Employed cleaning ship throughout. 0940. Observed Mauritius Island ahead. Positions at noon. 19.46S 57.4E. Wind SE force 1. PM Cleaning ship and as required. 1600. Stopped off Port Louis. 1750. Proceeded into harbour 1750. Came to with sandy bottom and veered to 3 shackles. Secured to harbour moorings. Let fires die out in two boilers. Distilling with one boiler. Draught of water forward 11feet 10 inches. Aft 14 feet 10 inches. Coal expended 24 tons with 9 tons 10 cwt remaining. Number on sick list 7.
