At anchor in Zanzibar Harbour. Wind south force 2 with broken cloud. Barometer 30.25 inches rising to 30.31 at 0800 before falling to 30.24 inches at 2000 and finishing at midnight at 30.28 inches. Temperature at noon 77F.  Draught of water forward 14 feet. Aft 15 feet 10 inches. 0500. HMS Boadicea relived the Guard. 0550. Weighed and proceeded out of harbour on a smooth sea steering with starboard engine. Course as requisite to follow coast at 6 knots. 0930. Mustered at Divisions and read prayers.  Marines at drill. Employed as requisite. 1000. Shaped to NE by ¼ E. lost overboard by accident2 Wash deck buckets. Position at noon 5.30S 39.23E with slight swell. 1300. German despatch vessel Pfeil standing to starboard. 1400. Observed HMS Pigeon of Pemba Island. Steaming and steering as requisite for Chaki Chaki Bay. (5° 15′ 00″ S 39° 40′ 00″ E) 1550 Observed HMS Reindeer at anchor off Pemba Island. 1710. Stopped and came to of Pemba Island with broken bottom in 14 fathoms and veered to 4 shackles. Banked fires. Anchorage bearings SE of F ?????  Island N87W E East Islet to Pemba Island N2W magnetic?  (Difficult to read handwriting) Coal expended 10 tons 5 cwt. Number on sick list 9.
