Barometer 30.04 inches rising to 30.16 at noon before falling to 30.06 at 1600 finishing at 30.10 inches at midnight.  Temperature at noon 80F. 0500. Washed clothes. 0600. Despatched steam cutter and whaler to blockade at Wasini. 0620. Weighed and proceeded out of harbour at 75 revolutions. 0710. Shaped ENE. 0800. Altered course to NE by N ½ N at 6.8 knots. Passing showers. 0915. Mustered by Divisions and read prayers. Employed as requisite. Training party at gun drill. 1050. Altered course N by E ¾ E at 8 knots. Position at noon 3.55S 39.52E. 1220 altered course to NE by N ¾ N. 1245. Stopped. 1300 proceeded. Course as requisite for Kilifi. 1440. Stopped and came to with sandy bottom in 10 fathoms and veered to 1 1/3 shackles. 5th and 6t guns crews and training party at gun drill. 1700. Communicated with HMS Turquoise boats. 1710 Weighed and proceeded out of harbour. 1815 Shaped course to S ½ W at 45 revolutions – 4 knots.  Wind SW force 2 to 3. Coal expended 11 tons 5 cwt. Number on sick list 15.
