At anchor in Zanzibar Harbour. Wind south force 2 with broken cloud. Barometer 30.07 inches rising to 30.13 inches at noon then falling to 30.05 at 16000 before rising to 30.10 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 82F.  Draught of water forward 14 feet. Aft 15 feet 10 inches.0500. Received 116 lbs of fresh beef and 58 lbs of vegetables. 0730. Took the Guard. 0800. Wind SW force 1.  Loosed sails. Employed cleaning sip throughout. 1100. Observed HMS Agamemnon to NW. 1210. HMS Agamemnon anchored. 1230.  Lit fires and raised steam in two boilers. Employed preparing for sea. 1730 Weighed and proceeded out of harbour working engines and steering as requisite. 2130. Light abeam. 2140 Shaped to NE by N reduced to 50 revolutions. – 2 knots. Speed at midnight 4.8 knots. Coal expended 7 tons. Number on sick list 9.
