At single anchor off Kilifi. Draught of water forward 12 feet 11 inches. Aft 15 feet. Wind south force 2 with broken cloud. Barometer 29.78 inches rising to 29.86 at noon before falling to 29.78 at midnight. Temperature at noon 88F. 0600. Sent steam cutter and gig to cruise in entrance of harbour. 0715. Weighed and proceeded out of harbour. 0800. Wind north force 1 with smooth sea. Course as requisite. 0915 Stopped to board dhow. 0940 Proceeded at 30 revolutions on course S by W. 0950. Mustered by Divisions and performed Divine Service. Position at noon 8.42S 39.56E. 1300 Observed HMS Turquoise and communicated. 1340. Proceeded NNE. 1600. Proceed in by Taka??????  Pass 1630 Stopped and came to with broken bottom in 10 fathoms and veered to 2 ½ shackles. Banked fires. Communicated with boats. Anchorage bearings Pillar N23W. Point S47W. Magnetic.  Expended during the month for signal purposes.  Four cartridges SC 12 oz 7 pounder.  Coal expended 8 tons 11cwt. Number on sick list 12.
