Barometer 29.73 rising to 29.75 inches at noon before falling to 29.72 at 1600 and rising to 29.77 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 83F. 0400. Altered course to WNW. 0600.  Increased to 55 revolutions – 5.5 knots. 0630 Observed land to WNW. 0800 Wind SSE force 1. 0840 Observed HMS Algerine to northward. 0900. Course as requisite to close with ALGERINE. 0940 .Communicated with ALGERINE. 1020. Proceeded SSW at 70 revolutions – 6 knots. Mustered by Divisions. Performed Divine service. Noon. Wind SSW force 2. 1300. Altered course to SW 3/4W. 15.45. Heavy rain and squalls from southward. 1600. Wind south force 2 with squalls. 1715 Mustered at Quarters. 1750. Stopped and came to at Kilifi with sandy bottom in 9 ½ fathoms and veered to 2 shackles. Banked fires. Steam cutter and gig returned. Anchorage bearings Bluff 170 feet S 41 W. Bushy inlet S84E Magnetic. Coal expended 13 tons 3 cwt.  Number on sick list 9.
