Barometer 30.21 inches rising to 30.24 at 08000 and then falling to 30.10 at noon before rising to 30.15 at 1600 and then dropping to 30.13 at 2000 before finishing at 30.15 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 67F. 0200. Received 120 lbs of beef and 65 lbs of vegetables plus 230 lbs of bread. 0500. SS Abyssinia anchored.

According to Wikipedia this ship sunk 1891.” In December 1891, Abyssinia was destroyed mid-Atlantic without loss of life by a fire that started in her cargo of cotton, further highlighting the danger in carrying both cotton and passengers on the same ship.[2]”

1806-1816

1944-1960

During Warship Week in February 1942, the town of Esher raised £1,192,211, contributing to the construction of the warship HMS Cossack. The funds were collected by the public depositing money into a rubber-type float in a pool. Remarkably, the surplus was enough to fund a submarine as well. The story continues.
