Hugh joined Cossack (D57) when she first commissioned in 1945. Called up for National Service and already in the RNVR The RN was therefore the natural place for him to be. Joined whilst ship under construction. Mustered the confidential books. Was joined by Lt Ronnie Herbert-Smith to work on watch and quarter bill. He sailed with her out to the Far East, remaining with the ship until 1946 when he came back to the UK for demob in the March and civilian life again. He passed over the bar on 5th April 2018 aged 93.
