During Warship Week in February 1942, Esher raised £1,192,211, which helped to build a warship, ‘HMS Cossack’. This was done by the public throwing money in to a rubber type float in a pool. (There was sufficient money left over to buy a submarine as well).

Remarks: Before his time on HMS Cossack, he had been a Navy commando, initially attached to HMS Triumph in the Malayan Insurgency, and then training and operating as part of a British commando force that worked with the Americans disrupting communication lines in Korea prior to the main UN operations north of the 38th Parallel. Date of Birth 13.9 1930 at Tunbridge Wells Kent.
