Stem up in cutter. Received 112 lbs of fresh beef and 57 lbs of vegetables. 0600. HMS Pigeon weighed and moved into anchorage. 0610. German cruiser Schwalbe sailed. 0730. HMS Turquoise relieved the Guars. 0740. Somali arrived. 0900. Mustered by Divisions and read prayers. Exercised at General Quarters. 1100. Scrubbing canvas gear and as requisite. Noon. Wind north force 3 with squalls. 1330. Landed port watch for rifle practice. 1430. Remaining hands employed variously.1715. Mustered at Quarters. 1845. Port watch returned to ship. Temperature at noon, 83F. 0400. Steam up in cutter. Received 112 lbs of fresh beef and 56 lbs of vegetables. 0530. German cruiser Sperber sailed. 0730. Took the Guard. Sent Roman Catholics to chapel. 0930. Mustered by Divisions and Performed divine service. Noon. Wind increased to force 3. 1300. Special leave to watch. 1715. Mustered at Quarters. HMS Turquoise arrived. Received from tank 17th to 29th December fresh water for ship use 28 tons and for boilers 117 tons. Coal expended 6 cwt. Number on sick list 5.

At anchor off Zanzibar. Wind NE force 2 with broken cloud. Barometer 30.05 inches rising to 30.12 at 1600 before finishing at 30.08 inches at midnight. Temperature at noon 83F. 0100. Let fires and raised steam in two boilers. Draught of water forward 14 feet 3 inches. Aft 15 feet 9 inches.
0400. Steam up in cutter. Received 112lbs of fresh beef and 56 lbs of vegetables.
0730 HMS Turquoise relieved the Guard. German cruiser Schwalbe arrived.
0750. Weighed and proceeded to the northward. Course as required increasing to 7 knots.
0900. HMS Turquoise made signal of Recall. Proceeded for Zanzibar.
1010. Stopped and communicated with TURQUOISE by boat..
1050. Proceeded to starboard to assistance of French sloop Bouret uposted ashore. Course as requisite. Position at noon. 6.17S 39.10E. Speed 8.2 knots.

1520. Observed French sloop Bouret ashore on reef off Ras Makunduchi. (Its coordinates are 6°22’60” S and 39°34’60” E in DMS (Degrees Minutes Seconds) or -6.38333 and 39.5833 (in decimal degrees). Its UTM position is EN69 and its Joint Operation Graphics reference is SB37-11.)

Temperature at noon. 82F. 0550. Weighed and took BOURET and PIGEON in tow. 0645. Proceeded. Steaming and steering as requisite for Zanzibar Harbour at 4.2 knots. 09000. Cleaning ship throughout. . 1200. Made number to TURQUOISE in Zanzibar harbour. 1230. Stopped and cast off tow. BOURET and PIGEON anchored. 1250. Came to in 9 fathoms and veered to 2 ½ shackles. Let fires die out in two boilers. Anchorage bearings Clock tower N66E. Ke??? (Unreadable) N9E magnetic. 1540. Commenced coaling. 1855. HMS Boadicea (Flag) arrived. 2200. Finished coaling. Stopped in Pemba Bay and secured alongside HMS Raleigh. CURACOA anchored. Found here HMS Beech. Noon. Wind east force 1. 1300. Employed coaling RALEIGH. 1500.
